Conventional concrete is placed over the RCC as a smooth surface on the
spillway. This surface will resist wear from the aggressive friction of
water flowing over the dam. July 2004 |
|
Hundreds of pieces of reinforcement bar (rebar) were set when RCC was
placed on the spillway. This rebar will hold the finish surface of concrete
in place. July 2004 |

| Unusually heavy June rains flooded the work area. |
|
Significant snow and rain since last fall have filled the City's reservoirs to 100% capacity. Loch Raven's "island" is an island again for the first time in several years.
|
| As April showers continue well into May, the Gunpowder River rushes through the construction site, yet progress continues: rock anchor installation on the east side is nearly complete. |
| Geotechnical
engineers from across the region tour the site, and examine rock anchor
installation first-hand - April 2003 |
| Workers must guide the end of the cable by hand into the drilled opening |
| Crane is used to raise 2.5 ton steel cable anchor for installation |
| 12-inch diameter drill bit is used to core into the dam, up to 159 feet deep |
